Deity information
Subhadra Devi
Subhadra Maharani is the sister of Krishna and Baladeva. She is worshiped with Lord Jagannatha and Lord Baladeva in the Jagannatha tradition and stands between Them on the altar.
In Puri sources, she is often referred to as Devi Subhadra or Goddess Subhadra. For New Jagannath Puri website copy, the approved local name is Subhadra Maharani.
Her position between Lord Jagannatha and Lord Baladeva is deeply meaningful for devotees. She is honored with affection and reverence as the beloved sister of the Lord. Her presence softens the heart and reminds visitors that the Lord's family is full of mercy, relationship, and care.
During Ratha Yatra, Subhadra Maharani rides in procession with Lord Jagannatha and Lord Baladeva. The festival is therefore not only the journey of one Deity, but the public celebration of Their Lordships together.
For visitors, Subhadra Maharani's worship offers a simple point of meditation: devotional life is personal. Krishna consciousness is not only philosophy; it is relationship with the Lord, His devotees, and His eternal associates.
